Sutrah for iPhone
Set a Fajr wake routine on your iPhone
Sutrah's Fajr wake feature follows the Fajr time calculated from your saved prayer settings. On supported iOS 26 devices it uses AlarmKit with alarm permission; on iOS 17–25 it uses notification-based alerts. The wake screen offers a tasbih or Ayat al-Kursi task.

Understand the alert on your iOS version
On iOS 26, Sutrah's AlarmKit path creates a system alarm on the Lock Screen when alarm permission is granted. Apple's system alarms can alert through silent mode and Focus. This capability is different from an ordinary adhan notification.
On iOS 17–25, the fallback is a series of Fajr notifications with an adhan clip. These alerts depend on notification permission and iPhone sound and Focus settings. A notification can be dismissed, so it does not enforce completion of the wake task. Neither path guarantees that you will hear an alert or wake up; check your device setup and keep a separate Clock alarm when needed.
Set the next Fajr wake time
Open Fajr alarm from More or the Prayer screen. The displayed alarm time is based on the same location, calculation method and minute adjustments used for Fajr in the prayer timetable. Check that timetable before choosing an offset.
- Confirm your city and Fajr time in the prayer settings.
- Open Fajr alarm and enable Wake me for Fajr. Allow the requested alarm or notification permission.
- Choose At Fajr or 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes before Fajr.
- Select the mornings you want. At least one weekday must be enabled.
- Check the next alarm day and time displayed on the settings screen, especially after travel or changing prayer settings.
Choose a sound, wake task and snooze duration
Preview the available adhan voices and choose the sound you prefer. The Lock Screen alert uses a short clip; the full recording plays inside Sutrah's wake screen. A sound preview checks the recording, rather than proving that the next system alarm will fire.
The wake task can be 33 counts of SubhanAllah or reading Ayat al-Kursi through the on-screen steps. Snooze options are 3, 5 or 10 minutes, with up to three snoozes per morning. Use Preview the wake screen to understand the controls before your first morning. The preview has a close option and does not replace testing your device's permissions.
Complete the in-app wake screen
The AlarmKit I'm awake action opens Sutrah's wake screen. Follow the task you selected, then use Start the day after completing it. The wake screen can continue the full recording while the task is in progress.
The app may schedule limited repeat alerts when the system alarm is stopped or the wake screen is left before the task is complete. Repeat behavior depends on the alert backend, permissions and installed app version. The counter and on-screen steps do not verify that you are fully awake, that you recited correctly or that you performed Fajr.
If the Fajr alert is missing or silent
Start with the next alarm shown in Sutrah and the permission for the alert type your phone supports. General adhan notification settings and system alarm permission are separate checks. Open the app again after changing location or permissions.
- Confirm Wake me for Fajr is enabled, a location is saved and at least one morning is selected.
- Check that the displayed next alarm is in the future and uses the intended Fajr offset.
- On iOS 26, check Sutrah's alarm permission in iPhone Settings. If the app shows a denied-permission message, use its Open Settings button.
- On earlier iOS, allow Sutrah notifications and sounds, and review whether your Focus settings silence them.
- Check playback volume and test a sound preview. If the issue continues, contact support with the iPhone model, iOS version, installed Sutrah version and scheduled alarm time.
Questions, answered
Does Sutrah's Fajr alarm work through silent mode?
The iOS 26 AlarmKit path can alert through silent mode and Focus when alarm permission is granted. The iOS 17–25 notification fallback is subject to ordinary notification and sound settings. Check which path your phone supports.
Can I wake up before Fajr with Sutrah?
Yes. Fajr alarm settings offer offsets of 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes before the calculated Fajr time, as well as At Fajr. Check your location and calculation settings first.
Why does the alarm time change each day?
The wake time follows the calculated Fajr for the enabled morning, minus your chosen offset. Fajr changes through the year, and changing location or prayer settings can also change it.
Can I choose which days the Fajr alert runs?
Yes. Select the mornings in Fajr alarm settings. An empty weekday selection leaves no upcoming morning to schedule.
Is the Fajr wake task the same as the app-unlock gate?
No. The Fajr wake screen offers 33 tasbih counts or Ayat al-Kursi. The held-app unlock flow offers a Quran reading timer or its own 100-count dhikr gate and provides a timed app break.
